... about the leather
Our leather is genuine, beautiful and incredibly durable - hence a real valuable material!
Yet, there are major differences regarding production. Next to the material and its additives, these differences mainly concern animal treatment, as well as poor labor conditions during the production process in faraway countries.
All our leather exclusively comes from developed economies. We therefore guarantee best possible standards with regard to animal husbandry and working conditions.
Since there still is no uniform and protected standard for "bio-" or "eco-leather", we commit to the best possible transparency by working with EU certified tanneries. This ensures the world's most stringent labor and environmental protection guidelines applicable to the tanning industry (Directive 2013/39/EC on the use of hazardous additives, Industrial Emissions Directive 2010/75/EU and others).
At the moment we mainly process chrome tanned cowhide and only few vegetable tanned leathers. The biggest disadvantage of chrome tanned leather was once the risk of developing chromium-VI compounds. Nowadays this risk got minimized through the use of specific additives. During the last 10 years no chromium VI issues were registered in regard to high-quality leather goods.

... about leather care
We mainly work with high-quality, greased cowhide, whose fat content virtually serves as an all-weather protection. However, if the leather eventually seems dry, it is helpful to sparely use some leather oil.
Greased leather forms its patina only with time. Light staining might therefore be possible in the beginning…and easily removed with a bit of bile soap. But usually this won't be necessary.
